Happy Halloween
October 31st, 2008Where to start… Where to start!
I recently sent my MacBook Pro in for a minor repair, and before I sent it in for repair I backed up my system with Time Machine and then installed Mac OS X freshly so that that the technician could login freely and make sure everything was working okay. Not really necessary as I could have created a second user, however I am very privacy conscientious. You don’t know who is going to be working on your machine. Anyhow, the point in this is I received my laptop back yesterday and I booted my Leopard install disc and tried to restore from my TM backup but although TM found the disk, it said I had zero backups.
So I booted OS X and aha, it warns me my disk contains an error which cannot be repaired. I tried with disk utility to repair it to no avail. I tried numerous things like cloning the TM partition with SuperDuper! but it errored everytime and the drive would click at a certain point so I’m pretty sure the drive is dying.
So in the end, after about 5 hours I gave up trying to restore it all and simply restored my user folder, luckily that part of the drive didn’t contain an error. This is why I love Mac OS X and Linux, all my documents and preferences (including serials for certain software) are all held in this one folder. So it was a simple case of re-installing my software and loggin out and loggin in again and (in the words of Steve Jobs) boom I was up and running once again, all my preferences, activated software and dock icons, wallpaper and such like. Pretty easy!
So I’m at my Brothers at the moment, in Hull. He’s at Uni so I decided to give myself a go at carvin a pumpkin! I’ll take a picture later and add it to this post. Not bad for a first attempt ever I think. So when my Brother gets home we can order a pizza and chill and watch some horror flicks. Not a bad evening I don’t think.
I actually came to my Brothers yesterday and we went to see High School Musical 3 at the local cinema, I didn’t actually see anyone else in the cinema let alone anyone seeing HSM3. Pretty damn good I think as it means no annoying kids banging on your chair or talking etc. Just a nice quiet room to enjoy the film. I really enjoyed the film and I’m glad they brought it back to the School like the first movie. I loved the film, don’t get me wrong, I just think the first was perhaps better. It just seems to be a clone of the first - practising for musical - Sharpay puts a spanner in the works to prevent Gabriella from singing, in the end Gabriella sings. Still, I got to see Vanessa on the big screen. ![]()
